Grasping At Eternity is a beautiful book by Karen Amanda Hooper. A Young Adult paranormal and fantasy writer. This is the first book I have read by this author and certainly will not be the last.
This book captured me and devastated me from the first chapter. You immediately fall into your own worse nightmare, where cataclysmic events come without warning and leave everything you once loved ruined.
It is a story about healing broken hearts, about finding love in funny and old places, and the strength of family. It is about connections that are stronger than life; connections that bridge the distance from one life to the next life, and far into eternity.
Really it’s the story of one girl who is unknowing lost and one boys fight to get her back.
A story of magic and reincarnation, souls and love.
It is beautifully written, but still being easy to read. Karen A. Hooper has a cleaver mind for creating dynamic and fresh plot lines, and interesting, fun, diverse and believable characters. The plot has a great imagination. The subject around reincarnation is fascinating and different. It moves along at a steady pace and having enough action and suspense, but stay true to being a romance.
This is the first book in the series (Yay!- I simple can’t wait to get stuck into the next one!)and the second book is a continuation from the first book but dealing with broader issues and new characters.
This book had my head spinning. I loved every second of it.
For all interested this is the books blurb:
“Leave it to Maryah Woodsen to break the one rule that will screw up eternity: Never erase your memories.
Before entering this life, Maryah did the unthinkable—she erased. Now, at seventeen years old, she’s clueless that her new adoptive family has known her for centuries, that they are perpetually reincarnated souls, and that they have supernatural abilities. Oh, and she’s supposed to love (not despise) Nathan, the green-eyed daredevil who saved her life.
Nathan is convinced his family’s plan to spark Maryah’s memory is hopeless, but his love for her is undying. After spending (and remembering) so many lifetimes together, being around an empty version of his soulmate is heart shattering. He hates acting like a stalker, but has no choice because the evil outcast who murdered Maryah in their last lifetime is still after her.
While Maryah’s hunter inches closer, she and Nathan make assumptions and hide secrets that rip them further apart. Maryah has to believe in the magic within her, Nathan must have faith in the power of their love, and both need to grasp onto the truth before they lose each other forever—and discover just how lonely eternity can be.”
