White Hot Kiss

Some of you know, I reviewed the prequel to this book on Sunday and since then have read White Hot Kiss. The first full novel in this series.

and it’s not fair because I thought there was a 2nd book already out in this series. Turns out I was wrong. Very wrong. I have to wait till October and I wanna cry- ‘like a big, fat demon baby’.

I got to the end and was so excited just to plough though the second book. But no. Now I feel like I can’t read anything, because I don’t WANT to read anything. I just want to read the next book. Yes, I am about 5 years old- I need it and I need it now!!

Needless to say, I LOVED THIS BOOK. Here is the blurb

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Layla, the main character, is sassy with a touch of wild and just the right amount chick. Roth,Layla’s love interest, is sexy as sin with abs for daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaays. Antagonizing, annoying and irresistible. Who could say no to a guy the a tongue piercing and a dragon tattoo? not me!

Do I need to say these two devils are definitely the driving force of this book? The plot line is interesting, but thinking back not sooo much happens in the four or so hundred pages.
I think the book is just setting up the playing field. There was some action, a resolve. Ultimately I think we are just at the tip of the ice-burg in terms of secrets, betrayals, wars, and all round disaster! However, there is enough fighting and mystery to keep it alive.
The ending is full of suspense and definitely leaves you hanging, so BEWARE.

As I said, the thing that makes this book awesome is the play between characters. The dynamics between character shift drastically as their outlooks on life change. You witness some heartbreak, much confusion on Layla’s behalf, red-hot betrayal and huge ‘read-with-a-big-fat-grin-on-your-face’ moments. Even the side characters are bursting with personality!

This is a Young Adult (YA) fiction novel. So if you aren’t into be grounded and re-living your first kiss, it’s probably not the book for you. Buuuut if you dig guys with pet snakes and chicks who can fight this book has you covered.

The author- Jennifer L. Armentrout- has a great writing style for this kind of  novel and an imagination to go with it. She takes it to the next level and places you don’t expect. Keeps it real but doesn’t make you tear your soul out and feed it to the alligators.

…and if she does she’ll mend it and you’ll be putty in her… words?

October, I’m waiting for you!!

White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout is the book 1 in the Dark Element series.
Cold Stone Touch will be the 2nd book, due out on the 28th of October 2014.
